During a hair transplant, we collect hair from an area of the body called the donor area. The donor area is usually the back and sides of the head. We then take the hairs that have been removed, known as grafts, and gently place them in the area where you have hair loss. The implanted hair grows for life.

Yes. Nowadays, most hair transplants are done using the FUE method, which stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. In this method, the grafts are extracted separately from the donor area (1 grafts at a time) and placed separately in the recipient area (area suffering from hair loss). Within this method there are 2 ways to place the hair transplants. This can be done by first making small incisions and then carefully placing the grafts with tweezers. Or through the use of implanter pins where the grafts are loaded into the pins and then injected directly into the scalp without the need for the prior incision. These 2e method is also called the DHI method. Different doctors prefer different methods. However, both methods are equally successful ways for hair transplants.

Another and older method is called the FUT technique, which stands for Follicular Unit Transplant. In this method, the surgeon removes a strip of skin from the donor area (back of the head), cuts the grafts from this piece of skin and then places them using one of the placement methods mentioned above. This method is more commonly used in men with significant hair loss or in women who do not normally shave in order to wear the hair short enough to reveal the linear scar after the procedure. The reason for this is that a large number of grafts can be removed in a very short space and quickly prepared for placement. The downside for many men is that the large linear scar usually makes them more self-conscious than the original hair loss because most people who would see it will know that the person has had a hair transplant.

The entire procedure is done under local anesthesia so that the patient is awake the entire time without feeling virtually any discomfort or pain.

In order for most of the procedure to be pain-free, the local anesthetic must be injected into the scalp through a series of small injections. Usually it is only the first injection that is noticeable. After this, the remaining injections are usually painless as the surrounding areas become numb. We at FueGenix Hair Clinic use a method that allows us to achieve a higher degree of anesthesia with fewer injections.

The cost of a hair transplant is determined by the amount of work required. If you have little hair loss, you can expect to need a minor procedure and the cost will be on the lower end of our price range. If you have a large area to cover, you will need more grafts and the price will be on the higher end of our price range.

Please contact us for a correct price, we are happy to help you.

The number of grafts is determined, among other things, by the size of the area to be covered. For example, someone with little hair loss will need a smaller procedure than someone with a lot of hair loss. However, the quality of your donor area also plays a major role. For example, the thickness and color of your hair, the number of hairs per graft, the density of your donor area and your skin type are a number of factors that can influence the number of grafts you need.

The hair we implant grows for life. The reason for this is that the hair we take comes from a safe zone and is not affected by factors that normally cause hair loss. For example, if you look at a man who has lost most of the hair on top, you will notice that they still have hair around the sides and back of the head. This hair is not affected by the male hair loss gene. So if we implant it on top, it will grow just like on the sides and back for the rest of your life.

Note: As mentioned in the FAQ above, however, your existing hair on the top of your head may continue to fall out if you don't take preventative measures. We can help and advise you with this, so that you can future-proof your hair transplant results. Please contact us for more information.

Nowadays, hair transplants heal remarkably quickly. Faster than you would expect.

When you want to return to work depends on your own wishes. What matters is when you feel comfortable with it. It basically depends on whether you would rather not have anyone see your scalp in the early stages of healing. In theory, if you were not bothered, you could easily return to work the next day.

However, most patients prefer to take some time off. Depending on the speed of healing, we recommend taking complete rest for the first week. After 7 days, most of the scabs have disappeared and it is no longer clearly visible that you have undergone a hair transplant.

This depends on the person and how their body heals. Some heal faster than others. As mentioned above, after 7-14 days it becomes difficult to tell that you have had a procedure.

Complete healing and reduction of redness on the skin may take up to a few months. In general, our patients return to work fairly quickly.

There are a number of phases you will enter after the hair transplant.

Phase 1

The grafts that have been implanted must attach themselves to the transplant area during this phase. However, this happens quite quickly. After this, the scabs and wounds will disappear quite quickly if you follow our aftercare instructions.

Phase 2

From about 2-3 weeks, the transplanted hairs may start to fall out. The grafts and hair roots are then already firmly attached to your skin. It is only the hair on the outside that falls out. New hairs start to form from the root and in order to grow through, the old hair must come out. This means that there is usually a period of 3 to 4 months where nothing may seem to happen. However, we would like to ask you to be patient and believe in the regrowth process. This is a phase that everyone who undergoes a hair transplant must go through. However, we understand that this is also the most difficult phase someone can find themselves in after a hair transplant.

Phase 3

around 3e all 4e month, the new hairs usually find their way. You will then see clear improvements every month with the hair becoming thicker and the density increasing. Exactly how quickly regrowth occurs varies somewhat from patient to patient. We usually say that you can expect your results to be complete within 12 months. However, there are cases where results can take up to 18 months. This could be in older patients or possibly patients who would find that injuries take longer to heal than most. However, the duration of the period until the final result does not influence the final result itself.

Yes, you can wear a cap after a hair transplant. However, we recommend that you avoid this as much as possible for the first 3 days so that your skin can heal faster and better. It should also be a cap that does not press on the implanted hairs. Contact one of our doctors for more information.

You can exercise safely 10 weeks after a procedure. For more information, please contact one of our teams.

It depends what kind of holiday. If the holiday is active, such as skiing where there is a chance of an impact to the head, then this is not a good idea and you should wait at least 1 month.

If you are going on a relaxing holiday, this is possible, but there are some things to avoid. For example, you should not keep the receiving area in direct sunlight too much. You can do this by wearing a cap to lie in the shade. In addition, you are not allowed to enter a chlorinated swimming pool for 1 month after the treatment. However, you can swim in the sea after 7 days. Please contact us for more information.

We always say that the best way to achieve the best results is always to shave the head, because shaving the hair exposes the donor area and makes the grafts easy to extract. But even if the area where the new hairs are to be placed is shaved, it is much easier for the doctor to see the areas where he can implant the hairs.

Depending on where the hair loss is, it may not be possible to shave the head completely. Sometimes it is also possible to shave only the sides and back.

For women and people with long hair, we can also shave a small strip in the donor area during a minor treatment, so that the long hair above covers this area again. This means that you cannot see at the back that you have recently had treatment.

Do you have any questions or would you like to know whether you are suitable for an unshaved hair implant? Please contact one of our doctors now.

In principle, besides pain relief, you do not have any other medication that you need to take after the treatment. In some cases we will give you antibiotics or medication to reduce swelling. Your aftercare package will also advise you on dosage and duration. Feel free to talk to one of our experts about this information.

No. Your donor area will be smaller than the final recipient area if you continue to wait. So it is much better to tackle hair loss from the start with proper prevention of further hair loss. Hair loss in men and women can be brutal, so if there comes a time when your best efforts aren't enough, this is usually where a hair transplant or an alternative hair restoration method is a good idea. To make sure it's a good idea, discuss your hair loss with one of our doctors.

No. A hair transplant is a medical procedure in which your own real hair is moved from one part of the head to another part where hair loss occurs, after which the hair that has been moved (transplanted) will grow.

Scalp micropigmentation is a cosmetic treatment in which an ink pigment is added to the top layer of skin to simulate a shaved hair follicle. Hair will not grow with this method.

Both are great solutions for hair loss. However, scalp micropigmentation does have many limitations. After all, you still have no hair on your head.
